I loved loved loved this wedding. Grace and John were so fun to work with and I absolutely loved their style and vision for their vintage wedding. Ivory and Beau did a great job bringing it to life. The wedding had sort of a vintage Georgia peach theme that worked so well at the charming American Legion ballroom. Ok, just roll with me on this… if the early Beatles had a baby with a Georgia peach pie, and that baby were a wedding, it would be Grace and John’s wedding.
One of the coolest things about the American Legion, is it’s amazing stage. This was a perfect backdrop for some cool alphabet balloons spelling “LOVE”. Anytime I’m in there, it feels like I’m attending a wartime dance in the 1940’s. I can just picture the big band and the big petticoats. I really think it’s just such an awesome venue for a retro wedding.
Let’s talk about the weather. Grace and John had crazy weather for their wedding day. All morning it had rained and poured and the dark skies seemed relentless. Thankfully, just as Grace was about to walk down the aisle with her dad, the clouds parted, and there was this incredible sunshine that just came out of nowhere. After the ceremony we started our portrait adventure. Well, with it being August in Savannah, we nearly melted. Thankfully some cushion in the timeline allowed us to enjoy a nice cold lemonade at the Gryphon Tea Room. It’s not something that happens, so I really enjoyed that little breather with my couple. We headed off to the reception and the moment we got in the doors the heavens opened up and we had a crazy thunderstorm. To tell you the truth hardly anyone noticed because of all of the fun being had. What was noticed was the killer double rainbow that appeared after the storm. THEN, following the rainbow, the skies turned bright yellow, and we had one of the best sunsets all summer. We snagged just a few silhouettes before it got too dark. I don’t know why…. I just think the weather was a bit supernatural and magical. It seemed to add a bit of mystique to this beautiful Southern wedding. And what’s Savannah without a little magic and mystique?
